Glass Wool on Roofs

The glass wool used in construction is composed of long, thin glass fibers that are bonded together within a thermosetting layer, thus forming a lightweight and flexible insulating blanket.

Applications: Glass wool roofs are designed to be installed under any metal or fibrous roof system that is supported by beams. Its purpose is to regulate the thermal environment within the building. However, in cases where condensation is a potential problem, a vapor barrier should be placed at the bottom of the insulation.

Physical Properties:

Thermal Conductivity: Glass wool exhibits exceptional thermal characteristics, effectively decreasing heat loss through the building structure.

Fire spread: It has an A1 fire resistance rating.

Maximum Temperature Service: Glass wool is designed for use at room temperature and should not be used in circumstances where the temperature exceeds 120°C.

Steam transmission: Glass wool allows for steam transmission. The application of a vapor barrier, such as asphalt felt, will provide the necessary vapor protection.

Bacteria and Fungal Growth: Glass wool does not encourage or sustain the growth of bacteria or fungi.

Moisture absorption: During a 96-hour experiment, with an atmosphere of 95% relative humidity and a temperature of 49°C, moisture absorption was less than 0.2%.
